Error saving/reading document

I am getting this error message when trying to open and save a document:
Error saving document:
Object not accessible.
The object cannot be accessed
due to insufficient user rights

libreoffice version 5.0.1.2
my OS is linux

the following didnt solve my problem:

  • chmod -R 755 ~/.config/libreoffice
  • removing config folder and restarting
  • chmod 1777 /tmp

In libreoffice options, the path to temporary folder is blank and I cant change it.
It also creates a TMP folder in the current directory I invoced libreoffice in.

When executing libreoffice as root the path to temporary folder under options is /tmp, saving, opening docs works

Check the path that you save the file to.

In addition, check all your LO paths:-

(menu):ToolsOptionsLibreOfficePaths

Whichever one it is, you’ve forgotten something, somewhere…

Update Oct 1 2015:

Thanks for the extra info + screen-shot of your Paths dialog:

!Paths Dialog

Your report that (I paraphrase) “it works with root but not with my user” is ordinarily a clincher for a simple permissions issue, and most likely on the /tmp dir. If it helps, here is my root listing (notice how /tmp is 777):

My experience of web-support was that PHP required Apache to have full permissions all the way from root to the sub-dir. However, that’s not the situation for LO (see /home above), so just check the immediate containing dir.

If nothing else works, then it may be that LO has gone rogue on you. There is a simple fix…

Restart with a Default profile (Q58416).

If this helps then please tick the answer (:heavy_check_mark:)

…and/or show you like it with an uptick ()

Like I said above, as a normal user the Path for temporary folder is blank and not editable.(Paths). Pressing default or edit and choosing a different path leaves the path to temporary folder still blank. It doesnt matter where I try to save the document(even with rw permissions for others). When executing libreoffice as root the path to temporary folder is changeable and pointing to /tmp.
