Exporting .jpgs from Draw 7.5.3.2

Curious…I use Libreoffice Draw to add clipart with text added for visual aids. After coming up with what I want, I export it as a .jpg. All works well; however, when they are printed or shown on a website, they appear almost pixelized as opposed to crystal clear. Tried exporting as a .png file but, though it seemed to do it, nothing was saved. Here is the most recent example: Isaiah 13-15 The very first picture of a banner, you will notice how the text is grainy–this appeared perfectly clear in the Draw program; only after exporting did it appear like this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

As you are adding clipart which is mainly vector based then you would do better to export as SVG. The text and the other vector items can be expanded as much as you like without going pixelated. Most web browser read svg without problem. You might find the svg gives a smaller file size while looking much better.

JPG is a lossy format that, with over-compression, can look blocky, but it is good for photos with lots of different colours and shades if the limits are understood. The problem that you see is low resolution/small size. Your first image, isa_13_banner.jpg is just 585 x 197 pixels, or 4.61" x 1.55" at 127 dpi.

Text needs a higher resolution if displayed as raster, in the JPG Options dialogue consider increasing the size to maybe double, so 9.22" wide, or you could increase the resolution to 250 dpi and then set the size back to 4.61"; the order in which you size is important.

You could instead export as png because clipart often has a very reduced palette that might result in a reduced file size but you still need to increase resolution as with jpg.

Thank you, Earnest Al; I will try this as soon as time permits and post accordingly.

I did try exporting it as a .svg file (using the “banner” as my example). It saved it using 2.4 MB as opposed to the 41 KB with the .jpg and there was no option for size (that I saw). Aside from seemingly a HUGE file, I could not pull it into the Joomla-based website, it did not even show up on the list, despite it being on the server itself in the correct file. What am I doing wrong to have the .svg file so huge in comparison? Thanks for your help.

Your clipart must be raster not vector. Just increase the resolution and use JPG for images with gradients and PNG for flat images but reduce the number of colours

Using draw, selecting the images/text I want combined into one image, clicking export, change resolution, it automatically seems to change to grayscale. I had previously used Publisher and this wasn’t an issue–trying to figure out the difference. I will do some more research, any input is appreciated as I’m not planning to go back to Microsoft.

I have not heard of that before. Is it just the image that changes to greyscale or the window?
It might be a graphics issue on your computer, try clicking Tools - Options - LibreOffice - View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Restart LibreOffice and see if that problem is fixed.

Is that the path on a MacBook? I’ll try it… Thank you.

On a Mac I think it is LibreOffice - Preferences - LibreOffice - View

You were correct, thank you. I will see if that makes a difference as soon as time permits. Oh, the "Force Skis software rendering" was not ticked.
