Hi,
As in title - I wanted to make epub out of PDF. So I loaded PDF, it opened in Draw. I’ve configured everything I needed, but unfortunately it seems like Draw just can’t export to epub as Writer can. Is there anyway around it?
Maybe better to use Calibre
A PDF is not a “text document”. It is a frozen display format for page archiving. As such, LO sees it only as a collection of graphical shapes (characters indeed end up as glyphs painted on a page). All logic is lost in a PDF. Even painting order has no longer anything to do with text-reading flow.
LO has no other choice than opening it as set of drawings, thus routes it to Draw. And Draw won’t output pictures as ePUB because there is no specification for it.
If you want to rebuild a text document from a PDF:
- copy blocks of text one after the other, in reading order, to Writer and restyle everything (long, tedious, error-prone)
- use an OCR utility program accepting PDF as input (requires careful reading to compensate for erroneous decision by the utility, needs also restyling and corrections)
- retype manually the document (the longest one but yields the best result)
- …
Once you have a workable copy in Writer, export to ePUB.
Or maybe open the PDF in Writer.
