[Feature Request] Function to generate a barcode and insert it in the document

I’m stuck to LO 3.6.6 because I need the function to insert barcodes into documents.
I use the extension “Barcode” ( http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/barcode ) but this seems to be not developed further and thus does not work with any newer version of LO.
If this function became a part of the LO core code, I (and I guess, many more users) would be very happy.
