Fill a cell with a character?

In Excel, you can fill a cell with a repeating character by using \x, where x is the character. And if I remember correctly, if you change the cell width, the number of characters will adjust to fill it. (This is handy for creating box shapes.) Is there any way to do this in LibreCalc?

No, Excel uses the same format code (asterisk).

I’m not looking to fill-out a number field, I just want repeating text characters. So if a cell is 5 characters wide, I want XXXXX, and if I change that to 7 characters wide, I want it to automatically change to XXXXXXX. In Excel I could do that by entering \X in the cell, nothing else. (Cell widths approximate, of course.)

Doesn’t work here with Excel 2016. Could you provide a reference to the respective Excel feature documentation?

Sorry Mike, I’m working from old memories, I don’t have any version of Excel available.

Format → Cells… (Ctrl+1), tab Alignment, Text Alignment Horizontal: Filled.

Excellent! I didn’t realize the “filled” option was available – thanks!
