Finding a way round dud 's' key

My computer works well except that the ‘s’ key doesn’t work any more. I would like to find a simple way to type the letter ‘s’. At the moment, I am copying a letter ‘s’ and then using Ctrl + V to insert it in my text. But every time I want to copy something else, I have to reset this. It would be more convenient if I could create a simple combination of keys that would insert an ‘s’ every time. but I don’t know how to do this. same for capital ‘s’. Any ideas?

Just buy a cheap, new USB keyboard (even if your computer is a laptop…).

I imagine the OP has posted this question in forums for every application s/he uses on the computer…

Every program might need a unique solution :grinning:

This is not intrinsically a LO problem. You can work around it in your OS of which you didn’t mention the name. You can modify the keyboard management to reassign a key you don’t use frequently. Usually it is “only” a matter of modifying configuration tables (work on a copy and create your own keyboard layout).

An easy solution is to buy a USB keyboard. You can find entry models at ~10 EUR.

On Windows you can use the codes of the characters:

ALT+83 = S
ALT+115 = s

(We had used the codes for the Hungarian accented vowels in the early DOS era.)
