In LibreOffice Writer, I have a paragraph style for the body text with a first-line indent enabled. The indent is defined by the paragraph style and is not manually applied to individual paragraphs.
When I press Enter at the end of a paragraph near the bottom of a page, causing the new paragraph to start on the next page, the new paragraph unexpectedly has no first-line indent .
This only seems to happen when the new paragraph is created directly at the automatic page break.
Expected behavior:
The new paragraph should retain the first-line indent defined by its paragraph style, regardless of whether it starts in the middle of a page or at the top of a new page.
Reproduction / workaround:
The problem can be worked around as follows:
- Place the cursor at the end of the paragraph near the bottom of the page.
- Press Enter .
- The new paragraph starts on the next page, but its first-line indent is missing.
- Type a single character in the new paragraph.
- Move the cursor back to immediately before that character.
- Press Enter .
The newly created paragraph now correctly has the first-line indent.
This suggests that the issue is related to creating a new paragraph directly across an automatic page break, rather than to the paragraph style itself.
The workaround is not practical for normal document editing, since the indent should be applied automatically by the paragraph style.

The first-line indent is a property of the paragraph style and should apply automatically to every body-text paragraph. The first paragraph of the chapter is intentionally formatted without an indent, but this is done separately and is unrelated to the issue described above.
I would expect the paragraph style’s first-line indent to be preserved when pressing Enter, even when the new paragraph is moved to the next page by an automatic page break.
