Font changing after inserting autotext

Hi. I’m using several autotext entrys to speed repetitive text. the problem is when i press F3 it input correctly the autotext, but the font changes from arial to times new roman, so i have to change it back or tap space and backspace so the font goes back to arial, which is quite annoying. Maybe a issue with styles? but I don’t know how to correct. Anyone please could help me?

Libreoffice version 7.1.1.2 (x64)
Windows 10

Thanks for your attention.

When you record an AutoText, all the formatting present in the sequence of characters is stored in the entry. The problem is not styles by themselves.

Consider the following factors:

  • your sequence contains no paragraph mark: no paragraph style is recorded
  • your sequence contains a paragraph mark: paragraph style before the mark will be changed for the one which was active there
  • your sequence contains no character style change: no character style is recorded
  • your sequence contains character style applications: AutoText will reflect these changes and leave you in the state at end of the entry
  • your sequence contains direct formatting: this is the worst case because direct formatting cannot be easily detected and even less reported (the Style Inspector gives some clues but is still imperfect)

As always, direct formatting is your worst enemy. Avoid direct formatting and work exclusively with styles for your peace of mind.

A poor workaround is to record your AutoText entry as New (Text only) instead of New. No formatting information will then be remembere. This is acceptable when your entries aim at speed up typing irrespective of formatting.

the worst part is it would be useful to have formatting. a word in the sequence needs to be bold. anyway. I did a test in a new document and realized that in this document it wont change style after autotext. So maybe a problem in my document. I’ll try to learn about styles to see if i can find somethin

The key to your problem is to make sure your AutoText entry ends in “neutral state” with regard to styles. It is easy for paragraph styles as soon as your entry contains no paragraph mark. If you want to highlight specifically one word in your sequence, ensure that the character style does not extend to the end of the entry. Otherwise add a space so that it can be “styled” No character style.

Any direct formatting will play nasty tricks on your back.

Also check if in the faulty document, the paragraph styles do not have an AutoUpdate property set.
