Lately, this irritating bar is appearing in the lower right corner of my documents that says “Footer (Default Page Style)”. Sometimes it block the text. I have done nothing to make this appear. The only way to get rid of it is to click on the down arrow and click on “Delete Footer”, and then it takes me to the top of the page and I have to scroll down to get back to where I was in the document. Even after I do that, the footer bar keeps appearing over and over again. It’s a big waste of time. “Footer on” is unchecked under Page Styles.

Disable: Insert → Header and Footer → Use header/footer menu
