Formats for imbedding Video in slides using Windows 10

I have been working on using video in my Impress slides and I am trying to figure out which formats will work.
It occurred to me that maybe ? It is not Impress that decides what video (and audio) formats that can be used but that maybe LibreOffice will just look at what formats are available on the individual Windows computer that it is being worked on ?
Like to get a MP4 or MKV to play, I might need to install those particular formats to my Windows computer?
Do I need to install some codec packs in Windows to allow for various video and audio formats to be used by Impress?
Any recommendations for the best video/audio formats for Impress would be great.

What video formats does LibreOffice Impress support?

I had an mp4 video file that wouldn’t work. It said that the video was not compatible. I converted it to a Windows movie file, and it allowed me to put it in my presentation. When I viewed it in presentation mode however, it crashed my LibreOffice. I was wondering what formats are supported to avoid having to randomly convert to formats that I am not sure will work. Thank you for your help. I am using 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
