Freeze a Row and Column at the same time?

I have LibreOffice 26.8.0.3 (X86 64) and I can freeze a row or a column, but I can’t seem to figure of how to freeze a row and column at the same time.

For example I want to freeze everything above row 5 and everything to the left of column F

I found a video that shows how to freeze the first row and the first column but as I said above I want the freeze everything above row 5 and everything to the left of column F and I can’t seem to figure that out.

  1. Select the cell at Right and Down where you want to freeze G6
  2. Go to View > Freeze Rows and Columns

Thank you, but don’t think you understood what I want to do.
I know how to freeze a row OR a column by the way you said, but I want to freeze a rown and a column at both at the same time.

I want to freeze everything above row 5 and everything to the left of column F

Perhaps you’re confusing fixing with protecting, is that it?

No, I know the difference between fixing and protecting rows, columns or cells.

Select cell F5, click the “Freeze rows and columns” icon…

That’s in the Calc help and guide since version 24.2
In my LibreOffice installation (26.8) I have tested it and it works correctly and without problems.
You may have an old version of LibreOffice or other problems (may be a corrupt user profile)

No I have version 26.8.0.3 and it only does either a row or a column.

Do you have to hold command or something to specify the row and the column?

It will freeze the first row and the first column together, but not the 5 row and column F.

Would you mind if I sent you the .ods file and you could do it and send it back to me?

I wanted to do this on two different sheets and once I get the one you do then maybe I can figure out how you did it and do the other one myself.

Your system is a Mac, there may be differences with mine, Windows.

In the file you send, the first row is already frozen so you have to release it

  • Select cell F5
  • Menu View > Freeze Rows and Columns releases the frozen row
  • A gain in the menu View > Freeze Rows and Columns will freeze the rows above the 5th row and the columns to the left of F colunm

(At least that’s what I can do on my system).

The fact that 'm using a Mac could be the difference, but it doesn’t makes sense that the developer of LibreOffice couldn’t figure out a way to get it to work like on Windows.

The usual idea is to follow the UI guidlines of the OS.
So developers could offer a Tools>options menu, but for Mac follow guidelines and put this at preferences.
(And Mac users told the world long enough their way is “the way”.)
