Graphical bugs when using LibreOffice programs on an external monitor

I’m using Libre Office Writer 25.2.4.3 on Windows 11, on a Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16AHP9 laptop with a Lenovo external monitor plugged in.

When I leave the LibreOffice program on my laptop’s screen, no problem at all. But as soon as I move the window to the external monitor, I get lots of weird graphical bugs. For instance, the pop up window that appears when we go under Format > Page Style is empty. When I go to Tools > Options, I’m unable to navigate the menu on the left (impossible to click, or I can click but don’t see anything).

I tried to reinstall LibreOffice, Unable / disable OpenCL, wipe out user profile, reset to factory settings… Nothing works. Problem happens with other LibreOffice programs too (at least Calc).

When I am in Safe Mode, it’s a bit better as I can click around and see the content of the popup windows, but some of their elements are blinking rapidly, so it’s still buggy even in safe mode.

OpenCL is for Calc so not relevant to Writer.

Navigate to Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Allow LibreOffice to restart and see if the situation has improved

Here similar issues using external screens. Both with this Skia enabled or disabled. When it is disabled (which seems to be the default) the windows are flickering nonstop when on a secondary or higher monitor. When enabled other messed up UI-things are happening, like after dragging the window to another screen (having a lower resolution, going from 4k to HD) it’s not updating, resulting in empty spaces in the window and completely messed up rendering. Also menus are empty.

This is happening in v25.8.3.2, which I recently installed. But was never an issue with the default settings on version 7.6.6 which I had installed before that. So it looks like it’s gotten worse.

Very unfortunate, because this means that I need to go back to the old version again and that it looks like this doesn’t get much love knowing this is still an issue in november 2025.

Maybe consider a bug report…

Does the display improve if you then close LibreOffice and open it again? Does it open in its new monitor and without display issues?
