Hang restarting. 'Mange Changes' window hung

I was doing a ‘Compare Document’ and she crashed. On restart the ‘Manage Changes’ window is there and it’s hung, all I can do is quit. If I try restarting with another doc, it still show that screen. I can start in safe mode, but how can I restore my configuration? Or figure out what’s broken in it? I see that even in safe mode, my doc still looks as I want, my style customizations are there, but my spell dictionary is not.

Have you tried opening a new document? Is the Manage changes still there? If not, try closing LibreOffice and then opening a document.

Here is a manual procedure to reset your user profile, User Profile # Manual Procedure

  1. I would suggest renaming the user folder using a date, so instead of user_old rename it user2026-03-08
  2. After starting LibreOffice to create a new user profile, close it and then copy across contents of folders such as wordbook, templates, etc as listed at the bottom of the page.

Alternatively, you could copy your user folder as a backup but renamed as previously described. Then click Help > Restart in safe mode. In the dialogue click Reset to factory settings > Reset settings and user interface modifications

Thanks, that’s a nice doc. I couldn’t open a new doc, the only action I could take was to respond to the system dialogue offering to close the hung program – LO itself was completely frozen. But I did manage to shake it loose by loading a very simple doc in safe mode, then restarting normally but loading that doc. The ‘Mange Changes’ window shut, but only after a few seconds. Anyway I’ll follow those instructions if it happens again. Meantime I’ve made a backup.
