Hi, I’ve been having difficulty getting the headings hierarchy correct.

Originally, numbers went missing or changed after I created a new version. Also, before and after the new version I had made manual changes (direct formatting) before I knew what a mess that would make.

I managed to fix all but two headings by removing direct formatting, making adjustments to the Headings Numbering and settings in the paragraph styles dialogue. The wrong headings are the second(duplicated number) 2.1 and 2.1.1 on page 18.

I tried the tab demote in the Libre Office Writer Guide (p111). It sort of worked on 2.1.1, and I should have started with 2.1, but it added another heading above it, which I couldn’t delete. Upon trying tab demote again on 2.1 (p.18), it just didn’t work at all.

I need to use the Headings N styles because I need it to sync with a TOC.

I’ve attached the example doc.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The hierarchy in the document is best viewed using the browser (I recommend the one in the sidebar).

  • In some titles of the document the numbering is written directly (it is not the automatic numbering of titles) for example in titles 2.3 and 2.3.1 which should be 2.2 and 2.2.1

to correct this:

  1. Click on the title 2.3 in the browser (it will take you to the corresponding paragraph)
  2. Change the paragraph style to Default paragraph Style or Body text
  3. Eliminate the numbers 2.3 (and tab if there is)
  4. Apply the Heading paragraph style again (Heading 2 in this case)
