How can I rename the master slide in my Impress document

I have an existing Impress presentation, which has a number of Master Slides. The Master Slides have names, but they aren’t very informative. They are numbered, as in “master 1”, “master 2”, etc.

How can I change the name of the Master Slide so that it is more informative? For instance, rename “master 1” to “text outline”, rename “master 2” to “title slide”, etc.

I tried switching to View > Master Slide, and looking at the Master Slide there. I don’t see a way to change the title. Neither right-clicking (control-clicking, on my mac) nor double-clicking on the master slide title seems to let me change that text.

Can this help?

In the master view:
Rename master

Thank you, @Hrbrgr . That page gave me a helpful clue. I have written a solution which contains the suggested method, and another method.

Change the name of a Master Slide as follows:

  1. switch to Master Slide view, by selecting menu item View > Master Slide
  2. rename the slide in one of two ways:
    1. In the Slides pane in the left of the window, right-click (in macOS, control-click) on the small image of the Master Slide. A menu appears. Select “Rename Master” from the menu. A “Rename Master Slide” dialogue box appears.
    2. select menu item Slide > Rename Slide. A “Rename Slide” dialogue box appears.
  3. In either case, the text field of the dialogue box contains the existing name of the slide, and is editable.
  4. Edit the text field so that it contains the new name for the Master Slide.
  5. Click OK. The Master Slide is now renamed. However, the old name will still appear in some tool-tips. (This is perhaps a bug in the Impress application.)
  6. Close and re-open the Impress document. Now, the new Master Slide name appears consistently.
