How disable auto-capitalization of single letter "i"

I’m using Writer to transcribe Swedish genealogy records. The word for “from” in Swedish is the single letter “i” uncapitalized. Writer wants to capitalize the letter to conform to English usage. I did enough searching to find a section of Writer under Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect Options > Exceptions but I’m not sure what’s next or whether I can even disable capitalization of “i”. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Capitalization of “i” to “I” depends on the language of the text that you type. If you are typing Swedish, the “i” should not be changed to “I”, it doesn’t happen when I type in Dutch with Dutch set as language. So, what are you doing? Are you writing in English, using Swedish words in between?

I am simply transcribing church records that are in Swedish, letter for letter. Most records are 2 to 4 sentences. Following the transcription, I write the English translation.

And I still want to simply turn off autocorrect for the single letter i. Haven’t seen a suggestion on how to do that yet.

I changed the language to Swedish and that did eliminate capitalization of the standalone letter “i” as suggested by two responders. Thanks for the suggestion.

When you are writing in Swedish, can you not select that as the language? It should be settable in the paragraph style or by individual word.

Also, when you type ‘i’, it usually gets autocorrected when you type the following space. If, at that point, you type Ctrl-Z, that should reverse the autocorrection, leaving the lower-case letter.

Selecting Swedish as the preferred language is something I will look into but I still want to disable the autocorrection of lower case “i”. Typing Ctrl-Z after each instance is, frankly, too time-consuming to bother. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

You can simply remove that item. Select Tools - AutoCorrect - AutoCorrect Options, tab Replace. Select English as language, scroll down the list until you find the item i - I. Select it, it will turn blue, then click Delete, and it will be gone.

THAT is the solution I was looking for. Many thanks.
