How do I add items to the Properties Sidebar in Writer?

I’m using LibreOffice (25.2.7.2, macOS Sonoma) to add alt text to a bunch of objects in a .docx file. I can do this by right-clicking on an object and selecting “Properties…” There is also a Properties sidebar that pops up whenever I select an object, which looks like a great time-saver. However … the only “submenus” under it are Area, Wrap, and Position and Size.

How do I add Options to the sidebar, which is available from the popup I get when right-clicking on the object?

(I tried searching for help, but no solutions were ever provided.)

I don’t think you can customise the sidebar but you can customise the context menu to add Alt Text, or add it as a shortcut key.

  1. Click Tools > Customise > Context Menus
  2. Under Search type Alt Text
  3. In Target field select Image
  4. In the Assigned Commands pane, select the command under which you would like to have the new command placed
  5. With Alt Text selected in the Available Commands click the right-pointing arrow to add the new command. OK

To add a keyboard shortcut

  1. Click Tools > Customise > Keyboard
  2. Under Search type Alt Text. Make sure Alt Text is highlighted in the Function pane
  3. Select an empty shortcut key, e.g. Ctrl+Shift+1
  4. Click the Assign button. OK

Note that a shortcut is already in the menu, Format > Alt Text

It’s already in the context menu, so I don’t see how the first option helps me.

Adding a keyboard shortcut saves some time, but unfortunately, the pop-up blocks the document. Modifying the sidebar (is this a general feature that someone has requested?) would let me see what I’m replacing.
