How do I change the page size on my desk top screen?

I’m 70 years old and relatively new to pretty much most computer stuff. Please excuse my use of terms. I don’t always know the proper words to describe my issue. Here goes: When I open up a new document on LibreOffice Writer, the first thing I see is a blank white page which represents the page I will be typing on. My question is: How do I change the size of that blank white page in front of me to 93%? I did it once before, but I forgot how I did it. I accidentally changed it today and I don’t know how to change it back to 93%. If you need to know how I accidentally changed it, this is what I did. I opened up a new document. I copied a picture from DuckDuckGo images and pasted it to my document. Now I have a picture with one small green square at each corner and small green squares on each side. I sort of know what they are for. If I click and hold on the small square and drag it to expand or shrink it in all different ways. Here’s when I ran into a problem. I wanted to change the size of the picture all at once, so the picture remains in (scale ?). I’m not sure of the right word to use. I don’t want the people in my picture to be too short and fat or too tall and skinny. That’s when I noticed the function in the bottom right corner of the LibreOffice Writer document. It appeared to be a sliding scale with the numbers 93% at the right of it. I clicked on it and changed the percentage. It was then that I realized I changed the documents size, not the picture’s size. Now I can’t set it back to 93%. It only lets me change it to what seems to be pre-selected percentages. I can’t remember if I originally changed it to 93% by using something in Edit or Format or Tools etc. I guess that boils down to two questions: 1. How do I change my white page size back to 93 %? 2. How can I enlarge or reduce my picture (image) equally without distorting it? I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Display zoom factor

As you noticed, at right in the bottom status bar, there is a zoom slider:
zoom slider

You can used it several ways.

  • clicking on the + and - signs will enlarge or shrink the view by 10%
  • drag the cursor to quickly set an approximate zoom factor interactively
  • clicking on the number at right opens a dialog to select pre-set ratios

Pay special attention to the small set of icons left of the slider. They affect the way the document is displayed and sometimes people don’t realise they have clicked on it. In my case, the rightmost icon is highlighted, meaning I’m displaying the document in “book mode”: even page at left, odd page at right as if a book was open (fine on wide screen). With smaller screen, it is better to click on the left icon (single page mode).

Resizing pictures

To keep the ratio between height and width, press the Shift key before clicking and dragging with the mouse.

LO comes with a good built-in help summary (in principle automatically installed, but not sure for Windows). To access built-in help, press F1 or Help>Libre Office Help.

Thanks for your answer about the Display Zoom Factor. I play around with it for a bit to understand how it worked. I even got it to change at 5 % increments. I’m still hoping that I could set it to 93%. I did it from a drop down menu a few months ago. It’s to bad I forgot what I did. Can you or anyone else get me to my goal of 93%?
About my second issue of keeping ratio resizing. First of all I tried pressing the shift key before clicking and dragging with the mouse. Nothing happened. What I don’t understand is, how can you change the size of the picture by clicking on it and dragging it? There seems to be a step or function that I’m not doing. I don’t know if it makes any difference but I’m operating with Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 32 bit, Version 2.2.16. I tried clicking on F1 and under contents were 10 sections to choose from. Then I clicked on Index and got 500 to 1000 titles or subjects. I don’t know where to start. Can you or anyone else guide me with step by step instructions?

Apologies, I was not very clear about the procedure. You press Shift, then you drag one of the corner little green squares .

Alternatively, right-click on the image and select Properties. This opens a dialog. Go to the Type tab.The size can be adjusted there with precise measurements. Take care that the Keep ration check box is ticked and width and height will keep in sync.

Thanks to ajlittoz for the clarification. Now I understand how it works.

I found out that you can change the zoom factor of your page size in single increments by clicking on the View drop down menu and then click on Zoom at the very bottom. Here you can change the view of a page to whatever percentage you desire.
