How do I edit the ranges etc in a Chart

I have been a long time user of Excel, and have migrated to LibreOffice.
I have created a chart in Calc based on a spreadsheet and want to update it.

I know there is an option to edit ranges, because I have stumbled upon it but cannot figure out how to get Calc to allow access to the ranges. Everything I try seems to want to process it as an image.

I remember that whatever I did “hid” the axes and then allowed access. Ideally I would like to have the data automatically adjust to the spreadsheet.

Click off the chart completely, into a cell, for example. Then “quickly” double-click the chart. A relatively thick gray outline show show around the chart after you have done this. Now right-click on the chart within the gray outline. The last context menu option should be Data Ranges…

Tools>Options>Calc>General: “Expand references …” = ON [this general option for all spreadsheets should be on in most cases. It may be annoying in some situaltions which is why we can turn it off]

Now you can insert new cells anywhere between the first row/column and directly adjacent to the referenced range and the references adjust accordingly. This affects all references in formulas, charts, named ranges, conditional formatting etc.
