How do I insert a German 'Double S' character?

I am wanting to type in the German language.

If you use Windows and a US keyboard then the easiest way (for me for 10 years) is to install US-International keyboard. Here you can use the German Double s ß AltGr(right Alt key)+s and you also have all the Umlaute available.
