When using draw program, if i make a text box and then using the top menu select a new font, the cursor in the test box disappears. When I click into the box to get the cursor back the text box disappears. How can I change this please as nearly all the software I use you click in the box to edit it.
Have the same problem when i try to paste text copied from elsewhere. I work round it by creating a text box. The cursor is flashing in the text box. I open up where i want to copy from and select the text. Go back to the document with the newly created text box and either select Edit/Paste from the menu with the mouse or simply press Ctrl+V on the keyboard. The text pastes in and the text box handles appear and you can edit, drag, resize etc to your hearts content
Don’t click on the empty text box, and the cursor wouldn’t disappear (version 7.2.7.2).
You can create a text box (F2
and drag), choose menu Character, and select options, and after OK, you can type (but do not try to click in the text box, just type).
Hello,
you could file an enhancement request here - or - change your way you use it: Type at least one character into the text box before you leave it to make any other setting.
See also bug report #tdf98856, where you’ll find in comment#2:
This is not (necessarily) a bug. It was a design decision to remove empty text objects because otherwise you might fill you document unintentionally with unused, empty and mostly invisible objects without noticing.
Comment#4 in the same report provides the following workaround:
- Create a new empty text box (and let it ‘activated’)
- Press
CTRL+Z
- Click at the position of the text box (it still there)
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that.
Bit disappointed that I have to adopt a ‘work around’ as I don’t use the program often enough to remember them and so get frustrated next time. It seems odd that the natural way to use a text box by creating one, selecting a font (if not using default) and then typing is not possible without it disappearing.
Let the text box remain until the user makes a menu selection unrelated to entering or formatting text.
