how do I transfer files from open office to libreoffice?

I’m finally upgrading from a very old Macbook circa 2011. I have lots of files in an old version of open office. How can I transfer them to Libreoffice on my new Mac which is Mojave

You don’t need to “transfer” anything - simply open them with LibreOffice

Please don’t use “answer” to provide additional information - either edit your question or use a comment under your answer.

The files will need to be moved to your new PC, you can then simply open them with LO. You could possibly use a USB flash drive to migrate data from the old PC

In fact not a question related to LibreOffice.

If OpenOffice stored your files in a common location or folder, and if the “migration” process copies the files in that folder to your new computer, then, as pointed out by @robleyd and @Lupp, the files should be easy to locate and open on your new computer by using either (or both) your Operating System’s file manager and LibreOffice.

thank you> I guess I should rephrase the question. I have a lot of open office files on the old computer . On the new system there is only Libreoffice. when I do the “migration” from old to new computer will the open office documents somehow “find” Libre? Or will I need to go through additional steps?

Please use the ‘add comment’ tool to comment on an answer, and the ‘edit’ tool for your question if you need to reword or to complete/clarify it.
The ‘Answer’ feature should only be used for actual answers to the original question. (This is an askbot Q&A site, not a traditional forum.)

Windows (e.g.) associates files with applications (here LibreOffice) based on the extensions of their names (odt, ott, ods, ots, …). These are the same for all programs using the Opendocument standards.

Therefore: If LibreOffice was installed the standard way on your new computer, the process will have created the needed associations already. Doubleclick your file and it should open correctly. If not in your case, report about what happens exactly instead. (Edit your question or add a comment to my answer for the purpose.)
