I do a lot of proofing of OCR text, in which punctuation is often wrong. I used to be able to highlight an incorrect quotation mark (perhaps it was backwards) and type the correct one to replace it. Now with 24.8, it adds quote marks to whatever is highlighted. For example, if I want to correct ‘ to ”, I get “‘” which is totally, completely incorrect. I can’t find a way to turn this off in auto-correct, and I DO want the auto use of curly quotes when adding a missing quote.
Go to Tools > Options > LibreOffice Writer > Formatting Aids and under Auto complete untick Enclose with characters
Also applies to parentheses, brackets & braces
See tdf#151710 and also a bug report relating to the enhancement in tdf#163402
