How to change a read only file?

Never had this happen before until I updated recently, and now my file is a read-only. How do I get rid of it???

There are some possibilities:

  1. LibreOffice closed unexpectedly and the lock file was not deleted. Open your file manager (you might have to enable View Hidden Items or something similar) and look for the lock file similar to
.~lock.[yourfilename].ods# and delete it. Open LibreOffice and open your file.
  2. In your file manager, check the Properties of the file, is it set to Read-only? If so, deselect that setting.
  3. The sheet(s) may be protected, click Tools menu and see if Protect sheet is highlighted, if it is then click it. If it doesn’t ask for a password then you have unprotected the sheet, otherwise, you will need the password.
  4. With the file open, click File > Properties > Security, is Open read-only ticked and greyed out? If so, click File > Save a Copy and choose a different name. Open that file and work on it, or delete the original and rename the new file with the previous name.

And that is a risk of using the fresh versions, especially an nn.n.0.n version; wait until at least nn.n.1.n or better still nn.n.2.n.
