Is there any kind of setting to change the background of my writer translucent, such that it will show the wallpaper of my desktop? There doesn’t seem to be an option for it in tools or extensions.
Why do you want to do that?
If you use a “rich in detail” image for the wallpaper, the text in the Writer will not be readable. Do you mean the Document background or the Application background color?
If you use a monocolor background, that you can set in the Libreoffice to same color.

(Fortunately) there is nor such feature in the LibreOffice - if I know it exactly.

I’m not surprised Microsoft stopped doing it; it was a solution in search of a problem.
