How to change the style of the links to the citations?

when we insert a new footnote or Endnote it will create a number which link to that note, but the number is always in superscript style, whereas i need it to be like this: [1].
so how can i change this, i couldn’t find such a question or discussion on the internet…

Your question is ambiguous because the footnote number is met in two locations: in text, where it is called anchor, and in the footnote area, where it is simply called number.

The anchor is controlled by character style Footnote Anchor. You can customise this style to cancel the superscript position and change other attributes. Note this will act on the anchor only. Decorations like [ and ] must be added manually. Yes, not user-friendly.

In case you customise Footnote Anchor or use another style for the anchor, apply the same style to the “decoration” for consistency.

The number in the footnote can be customised more thoroughly. Tools>Footnotes & Endnotes allows you to add prefix and suffix around the note number. Enter text in Before and After fields of Autonumbering. Formatting of the number and its affixes is controlled by character style Footnote Characters.

You want to constraint Writer into your own layout. This can be done only with a minimal understanding of the formatting model. In Writer nearly everything is under style control. I recommend you read the Writer Guide before you proceed. This is not wasted time. You’ll be much more efficient after reading. Caution! The Guide is not a tutorial and you must “integrate” what is described and adapt it to your workflow.

The toolbar menu shows only paragraph styles. You must display the side style pane for alol categories (F11 except under MacOS or Styles>Manage Styles). The character styles are listed after a click on the second toolbar icon from left.
