I used to select a Math formula and hit Enter to open the edit bottom window.
But I am now stuck (I don’t know why) in another mode where the edit bottom window is not open, the cursor is inside the original, in-text window —attached, and editing is really awkward.

Better also attach a demonstrating file containing such a problematic formula. What’s shown as your formula might be a kind of preview image created by a different formula software, e.g.
However, how is editing possiblöe at all under the condition

You have saved in your OneDrive, but this path is the local path on your computer. Not useful for anyone but you.
Problem solved by resetting the User folder. LO was corrupt.
