How to get the name of a month?

Given a date or month-number, how can the name of the month be obtained?

I like the SUBSTRING('JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC ', (@intMonth * 4) - 3, 3) from Stackoverflow but you find several solutions there and you can always use a CASE WHEN to generate the Name of the month directly in SQL. As the using of substring is not localised, conversion to a date-field is the better solution on the long term. J

January does not show. Only displays blank. This did work for me: CHOOSE([month_entered]+ 1; "";January";"February";"March";"April";"May";"June";"July";"August";"September";"October";"November";"December")

How to get month names starting with a capital in Format->Cell

I see no way to do it with number formatting. Do you need it as number? If it is a text, you can use the function PROPER to capitalize the string. For example, if A1 contains the date, then =PROPER(TEXT(A1;“MMMM”)) would result the string Janvier. I have tried to define a sorting list too, which has capitalized month names. But that does only work for direct text entries.
