How to I change the default date format from DD/MM/YYYY to YYYY-MM-DD and make it stick

how to I change the default date format from DD/MM/YYYY to YYYY-MM-DD and make it stick.

How to define the default languages and some other locale settings for documents?

You can also set date format using manual formatting

You can also set a date format without leaving the locale.
That is, even if the locale is not “English-UK” or another locale is entered where the default date format is not ‘’‘DD/MM/YY’’’, you can apply such a display format by manually specifying the format code ‘’‘DD/MM/YY’’’.

You can format cells for a date by going to the Format>Cells menu.
There you choose Date.
You can also specify a custom format at the bottom of the dialog.

For the entire office suite:
menu:Tools>Options>LanguageSettings>Languages, Locale = English (Canada)

I’m watching that “bug” for a long time now. Trying to understand for what reasons it is still open, I fail. The current state is clearly incompatible with globally approved standards, causing problems and misunderstandings again and again - and it’s impossible (imo) to find a satisfying workaround accepting otherwise a preferred locale and automatic recognition of entered dates based on patterns…
BTW: Canada isn’t the only case concerning the EBS (Elephant’s Bedmate Syndrome / P. Trudeau).

Thanks for the tip about using English Canada as the locale. Nothing else seemed to change the default so when I opened a new workbook my preferred setting was there.
It would be nice to have a more intuitive way to change the default date setting though.

How do I get DD/MM/YYYY to stick as the default?
Every new Calc file I open has the default of DD/MM/YY. How do I make the “default” YYYY.
Why Why Why Why can’t I find where to set YYYY as the default?

You waste to much time repeating things and you should ask your own question.
.
New files are derived from a default template, so you need to change this template, not searching for a central setting.
