I want to insert the image in the form of a circle or ellipse. How can I do that ? Creating a Shape and adding image to it as Bitmap doesn’t shape the Image properly! I want to edit the Image shape itself.

You should shrink your pictures beforehand so that they fit into the shape.

While it’s possible to assign background images to any shape, it present problems, especially when the original image is bigger than the page. See for example this report:
Bug 40259 - Unexpected behaviour with Shapes → Intersect
My advice is to edit the image with a external tool, such as gimp or krita, before inserting the result in Draw.
