list of around 40 items are not in alphabetical order. How to convert it to be alphabetical?
First remove the bullets to temporarily convert the items into regular text.
-
select your bullet list with mouse (or keyboard if you wish).
-
click the bullet list option in the pane or press (Shift+F12).
If this does not remove the bullets from the list then your selection might also be including other elements such as a blank line above or below the bullet list. You can try switching on formatting codes with Ctrl+F10 to help determine where to select). Select only the bullet list. -
copy and paste into a new spreadsheet document.
-
sort alphabetically within the spreadsheet.
-
copy and paste the sorted items back into writer. you might need to right-click (or use edit menu) to select paste-special and try some of the listed items to determine which is the best formatting you want. It should just work fine though using unformatting.
-
make a selection and apply bullets to the list again.
Provided your “list” (+) is not interrupted by other paragraphs which could be explanations or comments for preceding item, the procedure is:
- select the items
-
Tools
>Sort
and choose the sort criteria
(+) I use the word “list” within quotation marks because it works with ordinary paragraphs and with billeted/numbered lists.
In case your items are numbered, they are automatically renumbered.
