How To Paste Images Into A Document?

I am pasting images of QR codes into a text document.

It goes alright for a while though I can’t see where I’m going - can’t see the cursor marking where the next one will go - but they appear up to about 6 of them.

and then funny things start happening. they generally appear on top of a previous one and I drag them off there and leave them some distance away. What starts happening is they appear not just on top but now replace it. When I drag them away there’s nothing underneath.

I guess maybe I’m doing the whole thing wrong. How should I do it?

I will attach one of the sheets if I can.qrcodedocument1.odt

All your “images” are graphics needing a frame when inserted into a Writer documenrt to allow for anchoring, positioning, sizing… The frame style used by default in this case is named ‘Graphics’.
A new such frame is anchored ‘To Paragraph’ in Writer, and since your document only has one pragraph (which is empty) all the frames are anchored in the same place. To avoid overlapping and all that either automatisms must work (which cannot know your intentions) or you need to rectify things later.
In addition Copy/Paste and Drag/Drop are processes where a clipboard is involved. Clipboards of different systems may work differently under some aspects. A “Clipboard Manager” may in addition spoil things.
Thus: Prepare the paragraphs to which you want to anchor your images one by one. Select the appropriate paragraph in advcance of pasting. Change anchor, position, size, wrapping … in the ways you want it. Everything except anchoring you can do assigning prepared named FrameStyle(s).

On a recent release, default properties for frame (images are a special kind of frame) were changed, not for the good IMHO. Now, Allow overlap is checked by default, meaning all frames anchored to the same location (this is the case for yours) will not be moved to avoid overlapping. Even when anchored to different paragraphs, you can’t guarantee no overlap!

One of the way to automate image placement is to define some frame style with adequate parameters (to allow automatic relocation) to avoid overlap.

However mastering frame styles is not immediate. So learn first how to work with paragraph and character styles, to a lesser extent page styles, before confronting frame styles.

Thank you for that. I’ll take it home and study it for a week.

good grief. so my ‘drag and drop’ or simple ‘drop’ is completely out of order? I’m lucky I got done what I did !

So that explains all. Thanks for coming to my help.

The but you are looking for in the linked help is probably Presetting the anchorage - as of version 7.1. Set default anchoring to As Character and all the images will obediently paste in order, one after the other.

thanks for that tip
