How to put fixed date in doc footer?

I have Fixed Date field in standard template footer which enters today’s date.

I save the document.

Next day I fine date has changed and on checking, I find that field in footer is now just Date and NOT Fixed.

Why has that changed and how do I keep ti Fixed?

Please edit your question to better explain what you did.

I assume you Insert>Field>More Fields and chose Date (Fixed). But the result depends on the file type.

You talk about a “template”. Is this a real (technical) Writer template with file extension .ott. In a template, the “fixed date” field takes its value either when the template is opened or when the “ordinary” document is saved for the first time.

How do you manage your template? Opening it directly from a user directory? Integrating it with the Writer-known template and activating it?

Also, do you save as native .odt or .doc(x) M$ format? When exporting to foreign formats, compatibility cannot be guaranteed because they are based on different primitives.

Hello,

  • Double click the field while editing your template (i.e. editing the .ott template file)
  • Set the file to Date (fixed) in column labeled Select
  • Save the template

This way the date gets adapted once to the date when you create a new document from the template and keep to display the date at time of creation of the document.

Hope that helps.

Why you need a Field for a fixed date? Just type-in it as a pure text into the footer. It will not be changed even if you save your document into the obsolete, never standardized .doc file format.

OP is talking about a “template” - and if you want to create e.g, a business letter from a template you want the date of creation automatically within the letter and for legal reasons you won’t it changing after creation. That’s a standard requirement in every day business.
