Accidentally formatted the wrong drive. My documents were on it. How to restore them now? Please advise

If you really formatted the drive, all data is irremediably lost.
But since modern drives are SATA, the low-format command is no longer user accessible. This means “format” only resets the main control tables and pointers on the disk without rewriting address marks. Then, if the OS didn’t ask to wipe out existing data by writing zeros or random data, you may have a little hope that very specialised scavenging utilities may recover parts of your documents. But don’t hope too much. The result will anyway be very approximative and probability to retrieve something usable decreases with hard disk size (the bigger the disk, the more edits, the more fragmented the fossil remnants with difficulty to correlate to which version of the file the “segment” belongs to).
Search the internet for such utilities. But, once again, the odds are very low.
