How to revert to previous style Start Centre

I just tried 4.4.2 but have reverted to 4.1.6.2 because I am more comfortable with that Start Centre.
Is there a way I can use the “classic” Start Centre with 4.4.2?

My discomfort with the 4.4.2 Start Centre is that IMHO it is designed for a touch screen.
The 4.1.6 Start Centre was, IMHO, a simpler and easier design for this Mac desktop user. But that’s just 77 year old me :-}

Question edited to be clearer that the topic is the Start Centre (displaying recently used documents) rather than the splash dialog (which is only displayed temporarily on startup).
