How to save spreedsheet in .sxc?

Hi, have to work with ancient software in Windows XP in my job and force me to use cx_ files, in my personal computer I worked with OpenOffice to homeoffice sometimes, but now I’m trying OpenSUSE which come with LibreOffice but it does not allow me to save in sxc.
OpenOffice calls the .sxc files “OpenOffice.org XML 1.0 Spreedsheet” and LibreOffice claims to be the evolution of OpenOffice.
How can save the spreedsheets with .sxc file extension?
Thanks.

LibreOffice claims to be the evolution of OpenOffice

… and every evolution cuts off deprecated formats (though I never read this claim on an official LibreOffice page, please provide a link)

Not all evolutions cuts off deprecated formats, Microsoft Office can save in old doc, ppt, etc.

Around 1998 I was often asked by my daughter to use my StarOffice 4.2 to open .doc files wriitten by the newest version of MS Word because her (her employer’s) second to newest version couldn’t. StarOfrfice (the ancestor) of LibreOffice) could - and could write the document back to a .doc which was compatible with both MS Word. Don’t hail the evil ones.

Even Corel Worperfect 2021 can save in old sx_ OpenOffice formats but LibreOffice can’t.

We know that LibreOffice can’t - no need to repeat a fact.

Lupp you can open files (doc, ppt, xls) created in newest MSOffice version in old version but in the new version should avoid latest features, the MSOffice 2007 or newer itself tells you.

Opaque who are you to decide what should or not be repeated, Looks like you delete an answer and I don’t tell you what coment delete and what not.

.sxw isn’t “cut off”. Even most recent LibO will open it.
Only the wtriting to that outdated proprietary binary format was abandoned as of V4.3.
Concerning your special needs you find versions of LibreOffice prior to V4.3 for free, and you can use one packaged in a portable format without needing an install. Please tell me where I can get old versions of MS software. Win XP, howe
By the way: What version of LibO do you use on your XP system? There should be one also supporting the newer OASIS standard formats.

Opaque who are you to decide what should or not be repeated,

I don’t make a decision that you should not repeat, I just stated that there is “no need”, which is different from stating “You are not allowed to repeat”.

Opaque you are trying to decide what I can’t repeat.

The latest version of LibreOffice running on Win XP (SP3 I suppose) should be LibO V 5.4.7.2 .
It Is available form the download archive.

It can read and write all the currently supported file formats. It can also read sx? formats and also the much older binary .sd? formats.
For writing the very old formats you need much older versions as already mentioned.

FTR:

No, MS drops obsolete formats, too. MS Office can’t e.g. save to Word 6.0/95 format, or Word 5.5 for DOS. And it can’t even read the latter, while LO can.

The funny thing is, the export is not removed from LibreOffice, it’s only disabled by the gerrit change mentioned above. Manually adding EXPORT to the affected filters in e.g. share/registry/writer.xcd makes Writer’s obsolete OpenOffice 1.0 formats available and (as far as I can tell, based on a simple testing using one document) working.

Still curious: which ancient software requires such formats? It seems that people get the idea, based on your question, that you think that there’s no OOo/LO/AOO software for WinXP that can work with ODF; but I assume you meant that you have some third-party software that has that requirement?

There behind “Alte Dateiformate:”. As already mentioned only writing was abandoned. I did not know that this only meant to remove the option to save to .sx? formats from UI.

Another interesting thing is that the mentioned commit was also backported to 4.2, and appeared also in 4.2.4, but there’s no mention of that in corresponding release notes.

Not exactly. Removing the EXPORT from the filter section in .xc* disables use of the export code from everywhere (LibreOffice simply does not know that the filter can export). So you will not be able to export from macro as well.

have to work with ancient software in
Windows XP

There are such versions of the OpenOffice that can run on WinXp, and that can handle the ODF file type (the 1.1. version of the ODF) For example we had use the OO.o 2.4.1 on windows XP. You can download the older versions of the LO and the AOO, OOO, Go-OO, OO.o from some archive sites…

And you can download some older versions of the LO that can save into the ancient and obsolete file formats.

Thanks, I’m trying a Linux distro (openSUSE) I’m checking the docs for a “downgrade” for the defaul LibreOffice, if not works will search RPMs.

Be careful with the downgrade, as programs in linux a better integrated in the system, there may be conflicts when you try to replace with much older parts. (Python versions, libraries etc may have changed or are not available anymore…)

Under Windows I would recommended a portable version,
in your situation a virtual machine with XP.
