How to select a word together with the space on its right

Can somebody help me with this beginner’s problem: when in Writer I doubleclick on a word in a text, only that word is selected, not the space to the right of it (if there is one). Is it possible to instruct Writer to always include that space in my selection?

Ctrl+RightArrow jumps to the beginning of the next word navigating word by word instead of character by character.
Together with the Shift key, the navigated range is highlighted.
Starting at the beginning of a word Ctrl+Shift+RightArrow highlights the word until the beginning of the next word.

I don’t think there can be a satisfying option.

  1. What about NO-BREAK-SPACE?
  2. What if there is a point (exclamation mark, question mark, colon, comma, semicolon, hyphen) at the right side? Functionally you may then want to remove a space at the left side of the word together with it. But …
  3. Try to completely exactly define what you want. Consider what others may want. If I do I come to the conclusion in the first line of this post.

If you double-click a word to select it you get the space at the beginning of the word when you drag and drop it (move), or you copy and paste it. If there is no space (beginning of paragraph) then you don’t get a space. You don’t get a space to the left if the word is dragged to an empty paragraph or into an empty table cell.
If you want to copy it by Ctrl+left mouse then double-click the word and then start dragging it before you press Ctrl and the space before will be copied. If you press Ctrl before you drag then the space doesn’t seem to come along for the ride.

A no-break space is treated as a normal character so double-clicking gets both words

What I would like to achieve is that if I doubleclick on a word that has a space on its right, the program automatically includes that space in the selection.

That isn’t how Writer works. You must: alter your method to use the included space at left; use the method by @Villeroy; use the mouse to select exactly what you want or buy MS Office.

Thank you all for your kind answers. And no, I will not go back to MS Office!

you may press <ctrl><shift><rightarrow> after doubleclick

My conclusion:
a) In order to delete a word in Writer I do a doubleclick on it and press delete twice, once to remove the selection and once to get rid of the superfluous space (if there is one).
b) And if I do not want to delete it but to drag and drop it, I just doubleclick on it and drag it to where I want it to go, and now the space on the right is automatically included.
Once again: thank you all!

<shift><rightarrow>

EDIT:
<ctrl> do not harm, but do not help for to select “the space to the right of” the word.

Ctrl means you work with word units (instead of characters). So, technically, @karolus’ suggestion is not erroneous. It will add all space up to next “word”. So, it might contain more than one space and the relevance depends on user’s need.
