Writer has only part of the Constantia font family but Windows 7 has 4 including italic
which is what I need. How can I get the use of the italic so I don’t just style the font italic
in a fake way ? Also, how can I get Writer to show more fonts which are on my system ?

According to this question the problem is the opposite: LO shows hidden Windows fonts. However, according to the Wiki, this is entirely an issue for the Operating System, and LO/OO uses the fonts that the OS gives it.
I suspect that the issue for you may be due to profile corruption. To both check & fix:-
- Shutdown LO (including any quickstarter)
- Rename your profile folder
(this is the folder location + additional help) - Restart LO & re-check

thanks for trying ! didn’t do anything though. I use Win7 and it shows Constantina font family of 4
LO only shows 1 and no italic version.
