After upgrading to Debian Trixie on a Raspberry PI 4b a link in a spreadsheet to Stock Portfolio Management & Tracker - Yahoo Finance no longer opens the page in FireFox as it did before the upgrade.
Where should I start looking to find a solution to this problem?
Thanks,
Mike

Check what is set as default browser in your operating system’s desktop environment.

DefaultWebBrowser - Debian Wiki

Initially FireFox was not the default browser so I set it so in FF’s settings and restarted scalc but Yahoo quotes link still didn’t open in FF. Reading the ‘DefaultWebBrowser’ link you supplied I set ‘export BROWSER="/usr/bin/firefox"’ then reloaded FF and scalc. Still no joy. Thinking perhapsI’d not gone far enough the execution tree I killed FF and X and put the ‘export BROWSER…’ statement in a file that would be loaded when X was restarted. Still no Joy.
BTW, update-alternatives --config x-www-browser shows:
* 0 /usr/bin/firefox 70 auto mode

Further suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

What does happen? Does it open in another browser? Have you checked your system settings to see what is used as default browser?

This seems to be outside the scope of LibreOffice.

Initally I was launching localc from a jwm menu which worked just fine before the upgrade. As mentioned in my previous post FireFox is now the default.
Since it wasn’t working from the jwm menu I launched from an xterm window and got complaints: javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
After installing several java packages such that these java packages are now installed:
ca-certificates-java
java-common
liblibreoffice-java
libreoffice-java-common
libunoloader-java
ure-java
It reached a point that the new error message was:
xdg-open: not found
So I installed xdg-utils.
Then the error changed to :
Failed to create DBus proxy for org.a11y.Bus: Failed to execute child process ‘dbus-launch’
Hence I installed the dbus-x11 package.
After all that when control clicking that html link in stocks.ods I’m told that FireFox isn’t responding and I need to restart FireFox which I did but that doesn’t help either and I get the same message again.
Maybe you’re right, this isn’t a localc problem but from my end something localc has been doing for several years it doesn’t do any more.
Maybe it’s a Debian package problem that installing localc without the whole libreoffice suite fails to require other packages that are needed for full functionality.
I must admit this is far from my level of expertise.
Thank,
Mike

As a further note, if I shut down FireFox then load localc, that link to the quotes page brings up FireFox and opens the page.
Life’s full of challenges.
Makes me know I’m alive and not bored.
Mike

Asking chatGPT what might keep Firefox from responding led me to set FF’s about:config ‘network.protocol-handler.expose.localc’ true which got me where I wanted to be.

Cheers,
Mike
