I have been trying to upgrade from LibreOffice 3.3 for a few months. I’ve downloaded the Windows installer, both from the LibreOffice and CNET Download web sites. Each time I try to run the installer, I get the following error message: “Please exit LibreOffice 3.3 and the LibreOffice Quickstarter before you continue.” I am not using 3.3. I am in a single user system (Acer Aspire netbook). I have tried cold booting my computer to make sure LO isn’t active, and I have downloaded the program several times (in case of a download hiccup). No luck.
Any help in this previous Q&A? Searching this site on your error message might turn up more possibilities.
Thank you for taking the time to point me to other places where the issue was discussed (I had searched through the questions but without success). I had tried most of the suggestions in these other threads – except one, which did the trick. You have to remove LibreOffice 3.3 from your machine (I did that by copying/deleting it onto a flash drive for an emergency backup and then removed the USB flash drive and then deleting the desktop shortcut). Then, when I ran the installer, it finally did not hang. I’m about to open LO 4.2 to see if it’s what I’m hoping for.
Glad you sorted it! Hope you enjoy your updated LibO.
