I can’t insert images into Writer documents. All I get is a rectangle with Image number # in the upper left corner of the rectangle. It doesn’t seem to matter what image format I use. JPG, BMP, PNG, nothing works.
Try, if you can generate a pdf from your file. If the picture is in the pdf, it you also succeeded to insert it in your file.

There is an option in settings to show only placeholders for pictures to save memory and speed up handling. You may need to switch it off. (My language is not set to english, so you have to search a bit in options/settings/preferences.

If your picture is not included in the pdf above: You try with a local image-file from your computer, or with remote files from the net?
