I hate Libre Office!!! Even after the updates it’s still a problem and when I send to Microsoft all it does is spin!!!
HI @9melsmith, Sorry to read that.
Take a look at the guidelines at LibreOffice user profile - The Document Foundation Wiki to see if the problems can be caused by corruption in the user profile.
And what is the question? Are you looking for a fix? Do you want to revert gracefully to M$ Office?
@9melsmith: Did you come here to make us feel bad for supporting LibreOffice?
It is not working.
Did you come here to ask for help with LibreOffice?
If so, you need to ask in a more explicit fashion. Currently we have received the specific question “What is the deal?”, with the following background information:
- You have nothing but problems with LibreOffice.
- Even after updating something (LibreOffice, operating system, or possibly something else) you still have a problem.
-
You try to send something …
problem report, your file, or something else - … to Microsoft, …
Windows system/update services, Microsoft cloud storage, some MS Office app. - … and something spins
LibreOffice, your computer, Windows, the problem report, a progress indicator for either of those, Microsoft, your problem, or possibly something else
If you need help, please help us to help you! Tell us what your problem is, and what kind of system you have.
Please test with a clean profile, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode
What is the deal?
(cite slightly modified to not yelling)
If you are really interested in the “deal” - * A Note about Freeware may give you a clue (esp. what can be found below heading When you download a freeware program, you have some rights, some responsibilities, and you have just one remedy:)
With free software, though, you have all rights.
@9melsmith, Can you share your operating system and LibreOffice version? To do that, choose menu Help
- About LibreOffice
, copy from there, press edit below your question and paste. Thanks.
I think the question is pretty much common sense. I’m having issues. I barely use it and when I do the upgrade, I get error messages and my files won’t open or are readable. There’s only ONE way to convert? Gracefully? Not necessarily, but I didn’t have problems with MS Office. Tell me why you’re better and why computer gurus are using Libre. I don’t care what I use, as I’m not really fond of MS Office, but I would like something to work. It’s a program issue, not a corruption in the user profile. Why do people want to blame someone else. I didn’t create the program. Why would I come here to make anyone feel bad for using? LOL I’m just trying to just get it to work. If you can help, that would be great! I’ve just had enough with digital and computers. They’re suppose to make life simple but they’re anything BUT. I’m open to any feedback. I honestly don’t even understand this page, and I’m new to Libre. I bought this refurbished computer from Amazon and they loaded Libre instead of office. Just understand my frustration.
Thank you.
Tell me why you’re better and why computer gurus are using Libre.
Briefly: using LibreOffice, I have much less issues when making text documents that must comply with certain formatting requirements. Thus, my productivity is higher. I wouldn’t say, though, I’m a computer guru (whatever it is).
[…] they loaded Libre instead of office. Just understand my frustration. […]
I understand, no problem.
If you have a refurbished computer set up by some random Amazon seller, the reason for installing LibreOffice has to do with cashflow. Microsoft Office will cost money. LibreOffice can cost money if you want, and can afford it, and otherwise see it fit. Otherwise it is licensed free of charge.
If you have a computer set up by some random Amazon seller, the reason for your problems is not likely the Office suite (and yes, LibreOffice is Office all right, albeit not Microsoft Office) but the setup in general. Millions of computer users are using LibreOffice on a daily basis. Not all of them are highly digitally competent.
Tell me why you’re better
- We as people are not necessarily better, in the broader sense
- We consider LibreOffice better, mostly because it is more standards compliant and encourages the design of structured documents.
In every domain there are rules to follow. For example, in Q&A sites, an answer is supposed to be a solution not a comment.
I didn’t create the program too. I got it to work. The method is easy: first read the manual. Every application is complex nowadays. You can’t guess how it works by trial and errors because you’ll never get the gist out of it. You must learn a minimum from the right source before being able to do something useful with the app.
If your problem is your wish to not change your present habits to adapt to a new tool, we can’t help you. Keep with your present tools. That’s as simple as that.
A last word: we aren’t the developers and can’t tell why we are better (I assume you mean the suite is better, not people answering here. We also had the choice between various suites and decided for LO because we found good reasons for it.
The decision is yours but you must accept the consequences.
Why would I come here to make anyone feel bad for using?
There are haters out there. I don’t know you. For all I know you could be one.
If you can help, that would be great!
Can’t do that if we don’t know what you need help with.
I think the question is pretty much common sense. I’m having issues.
Yes, having issues is the most common reason for people to address this site. Usually they proceed to explain their issues, if not up front then at least when asked. You have been asked.
Posting general complaints and emotional statements is the typical strategy of a troll. Please, show us that you are not one.
- We really enjoy the challenge of solving those issues, but only when they are real.
- We are not customer service, but we want to be of service.
- We are your peers, but only if you want to level with us.
I don’t really know which one of us you guys are talking to. I’m NOT a programmer, never said I was. I’m not a hater (but hate people who make the assumption others are). That’s the problem today with society, people are way too whiney and get their feelings hurt. I had no idea this was a bashing ward. I only know the stupid guy I bought this computer from doesn’t know what he’s doing. If I had a choice Microsoft would be it. Not that it is perfect, but I didn’t have any problems with Libre until the update. I don’t have to accept whatever consequences you’re referring to. I’ve NEVER said I was better, only that I hate Libre right now. The person that created this program clearly must be a Liberal Democrat because they think they’re always right, but never are! They just know how to make excuses and never get anything right. I WILL figure it out myself because I don’t have time for people who are what they accuse others of. I had no idea what this site or forum was.
I was pretty clear with the issues I’m having and explained it perfectly. Obviously, someone really isn’t interested in solving problems. I didn’t say you were customer service, but if you say Libre is all it’s cut out to be, you would have the answers and would be glad to help someone. I was venting and thought surely this was where I go for help from Libre but obviously they can’t do that right. Why write a program that’s horrible and causes issues (especially with updates) and you’re not available to help someone. Bye Libre!
Yes. Bye troll. Closing now.
