Image captions in frames

When I place an image in a text document (in Writer) then add a caption so that it becomes a frame the caption keeps going to the top of the frame and is covered (hidden) by the image. What am I doing wrong?

Well with your description one can only make assumptions.

Please upload here a reduced and anonymized sample file where the problem is present.

How to upload:

Click on the three dots ( … ) directly below your initial question.
Then click the pencil icon to edit your question.
In question edit mode, select the upload icon.
Select your file and click the Upload button.
Thank you.

Wild guesses:

  • the wrap property of your picture is incorrectly set to “Through”
  • Allow overlap is checked (this is now the default, shame!)
  • some “fancy” anchor mode
  • when you inserted the caption, Position: was set to Start instead of End

For better advice, mention OS name and LO version

Sorry, this is gong to take a while. At present I have to struggle with the endnotes going into random points at the end of the file.

It becomes a picture embedded in a frame. Right-click on the picture, choose Properties…, Wrap=Off, tab “Type”, Anchor to paragraph and “Keep ratio”.

Yeah, I was trying to do that but it often does the wrong thing.
I’ll try your suggestions soon.

Copy the frame with image into a blank document and upload the document.

Yeah, sorry. It’s 10:30pm here. I will have to test this tomorrow.
