Impress: horizontal alignment in text box does not work?

I am new to Impress and try to find my way around.
I created a text box on a slide and want to align the text in the box (horizontally centered). I go to format text/align text/center, but nothing happens.
Vertical alignment (top/center/bottom) on the other hand does work…

Any suggestions would be much appreciated…

You must select the text, not the frame.

That’s what I did,…

First steps to take before submitting a bug

Thanks for taking time to help out. Looking at these first steps, they are related to reproducing the error in the latest version of Impress… However, I installed it yesterday, so would think that is the latest version? And my question popped up after using it for about 10 mins - could my user profile be corrupted by then?
The weird thing is, the vertical alignment does work…

Triple click the line of text to select the entire paragraph. Does the selection include empty space at the end? If it does then there are Space or Tab characters which will be included when aligning text. Delete the empty spaces.

I also struggle with it especially with “old” text fields. Usually what I have to do is to create a new text field and then copy the text in again after which it works.

I just encountered the problem again by the way and I did make sure to select the whole text as has been suggested here.

Obviously you would think so. But as you didn’t gave details this is not necessarily true. Several users of Linux do not understand the policies of their distribution on updating and find themselves with older versions, while th OS shows nothing newer available.

Similiar threads can be found for portable versions, downloads from app-stores, and nobody can track all snaps, flatpacks and containers (docker…) wich all may differ a bit.

Also: If anybody finds this thread in 2 weeks/month/years it can’t be placed to a version. But that’s not your problem…
