Impress How to change the slides usable area size?

I just switched from MS ppt to Libreoffice. I noticed that, in Impress, I can zoom out quite a bit outside of the slide itself. However, the space to add items, such as text boxes, is quite limited to just a bit more than the marked area. How do I increase the default usable size for each slide? I want to be able to place items far outside of the commonly used white slide area.
In the picture: I have zoomed out and the white area can be seen, The maximum size of the default usable area has been marked with a rectangle. I want to be able to expand the rectangle further.
