In Libre Office 24.2 spreadsheet on USB drive, I got the "Document Could Not Be Locked" Window message

Libre Office Notify message

Are you able to tell me what steps to follow so that I Can EDIT the document without waiting for the “Notify” message?? I use Windows 11 64 bit and I have plenty of hard drive room on my home Windows desk top.

You have restricted file access on that USB drive. Copy the file to your home directory on hard disk and edit that copy.

You may find this page is an informative read, Preventing data disaster - The Document Foundation Wiki

It could help you plan a more robust strategy for working on your documents. Normally, I link this after someone has had data loss; you get the link before loss. The advice is not specific to LibreOffice.

You can (at your own risk) choose not to create lock files.
Menu / Tools / Options / Advanced / Open Expert Configuration
Search: UseLocking

Change Property UseLocking value to “false”
OK
OK

You can use this extension to disable locking. Once you remove the extension, the “UseLocking” setting will be enabled again.

This extension can be used by new users (better for automation)

Naming an extension that changes a specific configuration simply “Config” is misleading. If naming is hard, then simple “DisableUseLocking” would be infinitely better.
