Indents not being saved

No matter what I’ve tried, the next time I open my documents the auto indent is stripped, forcing me to reapply the setting manually or by editing the custom paragraph style I created. I tried saving in different formats like doc rather than docx, but it still removes the style when I reopen. I even updated to the latest version but the bug still exists.
This is making it impossible to import the saved document into other forms like ePub or onto Drive for group editing since none of that formatting remains for the conversion or upload.
I read through other threads on this topic but no one actually addresses it.Test1.docxTest1.odt

I cannot reproduce your issue even using tabs instead of indent. Can you make a sample file and save it as .odt ?

What Operating System and version? What LibreOffice version? Click Help > About LibreOffice, click the icon next to Version information to copy details to clipboard and add to your question. If no icon then copy from About dialog box.

To add to your question click the edit link just below it.

If you save in ODF (.odt), does it remain?

Works fine for me with both .doc and .docx on my Xubuntu machine with LO 7.0.3.

Version: 7.0.5.2 (x64) Windows: 7 (64)

This started happening in version 3 even though I never had an issue with it before. That’s why I updated, but the new version does it also. It retains it for odt, but I need the documents in docx.

Works fine on my Windows 10 machine also.

You can try to reset your LibreOffice user profile (rename it). Not really sure it can help but who knows.

Else, can you upload a sample file (.odt that shows the problem when exported in .docx; no need to upload the .docx), see: How do I add to/clarify my question?.

The instructions don’t explain the different settings when starting in Safe Mode.It only says to click Continue, but I don’t want to mess it up selecting the wrong thing.

Use the manual method: rename the profile (so that you can retrieve it if it doesn’t help).

It tells me I can’t save certain formatting in Word format, even though I never had an issue with saving first line indents before.

Yes, standard warning when you don’t save in ODF. Continue anyway.

I did and it stripped the first line indent.

Can you upload the .odt file?

odt doesn’t help me. I need to import docx for conversions, and odt isn’t stripping it. The exact same version I’ve been using suddenly decided to not allow first line indents to be saved even though it had been doing so for years.

The point is that there is maybe something in the odt that prevents the export in .docx.

Else, a .docx that shows the issue.

It was never saved in odt, always docx from the start. I also can attach anything becasue I don’t have the paperclip.

See the link several comments above, it points to the wiki that tells how to do that.

I read that. All I have here is Bold, Italic, Link, Preformatted Text, Numbered List, and Bullets

How do I attach a file? In a comment. Or edit your question.

Did that work?

First, your document is .docx. There are differences in paragraph style deinitions between Word and Writer. This could be enough to cause the issue though I doubt that the indents are not compatible between the suite.

Second, you probably always format your documents wit direct formatting. The sample you submitted is only Default Paragraph Style which is a “technical” style which never be used for text (contrary to Word where Default Style is supposed to format ordinary text; the same role is assigned to Text Body in Writer)

According to the XML, your first paragraph has been manually “customised”. The next two share a same manual format. Both formatting are the same but they have no indent. In short, no format really applied.

Even with direct formatting, when I save and reopen (in .docx), my indent changes are persistent.

What do you do exactly?

As said at the beginning, it works fine with a brand new document. You should clarify how the document is made, how the indent is applied and in what format it is saved if any other than .docx.
