Insert columns doesn't work

Sheet insert columns columns before and after is greyed out. Right clicking a column doesn’t provide an the insert column either (like right clicking a row does). Track changes is not on. Surely there is existing help for this, but the LibreOffice search routines cannot find it if there is. HOW DO I INSERT A COLUMN?

Do you perhaps have a range of cells protected that might intersect with the area where you are trying to insert?

Looks related to today’s IRC message:

Are others finding it impossible to insert a column in LibreOffice Calc?

Never mind–evidently you must select a cell and cannot select a column. LibreOffice behavior and lack of online help always amazesme.

The problem looks specific to something on the concrete sheet, though, as @robleyd pointed out. Because on a clean sheet:

And anyway, there’s a menu, which allows fast inspection and finding the prominent elements under Sheet top-level item. And the menu items are indeed discussed in the online help, and easily discoverable there using the insert column obvious search term:

But of course, the menu is such an unfriendly thing, that is hated to the point that every “modern” UI concept tries to remove it, to be more “user-friendly”. Well, even the tabbed variants have the insertion elements on the “Home” tab:

And when you are going to lock the sheet you are prompted if you need to insert/remove columns or rows on the protected sheet.
