Insert page numbers - number appears only on one page

Hi,

I am finding it impossible to insert page numbers in a 120 page document in Writer. I have followed these instructions from the LibreOffice help pages:

1. Choose Insert - Header and Footer - Footer and select the page style that you want to add the footer to.
2. Choose Insert - Field - Page Number.

I would expect consecutive numbers to appear in the footer of all consecutive pages of the same style. What in fact happens is that the correct page number appears on the page where the cursor is, but no page numbers appear on any other page.

Have you ensured (at step 1 1/2) that your cursor is inside the newly inserted footer?

If you use more than one page style, you will have to enable footers for each page style in use and enter te page number field in its footer.

Another thing to check is that “same content on the first page” is selected for the footer,

In Writer open the “Format” menu then “Page”>select the “Footer” tab in the panel that appears and in the list of footer options make sure that the “Footer on”, “same content on left and right pages”, and “same content on the first page” boxes are ticked.

The option for different contents in first and subsequent footers/headers is a useful feature of LO. If (like me) you usually want the first page to be free of such things as reminders of the document’s title then leave the “same content on the first page” box unticked and insert a “Page Number” field in the footer of the next page. This should produce numbers on all subsequent pages. You can also choose to have different content on the left and right pages and so put the page number fields in the outer corners of footers/headers.
