How do I transfer pages from another document file? I can open both documents on my computer side by side? Best regards, Morkdal
You can’t insert pages because there is no primitive “object” like a page in a Writer document (pages are dynamically allocated to accommodate your text flow). You can only copy text from one document and paste it into the other one.
@morldal
Your question is a bit unspecific.
- What about headers/footers? Would you like to preserve them if you “Insert an Entire Text Document”?
- What about customized (paragraph or character) styles - which could differ?
Please specify your question.
Select the text you want from “another document file” and press Ctrl+C to copy. Change to the target document and place your cursor where you want the text to be and press Ctrl+V to paste.

No, please don’t do that. I had to translate on Google. Help the helpers and write in English or write Swedish in the Swedish branch of the ask site. Thank you.
Was willst du tun, wenn ich jetzt in Deutsch weiterschreibe?
Someone who doesn’t understand anything apologizes for not writing in English right away.
Hi, I thank you for all the help and tips.
The idea behind it is that I’m doing what many old people do, writing a book.
Now I’m rewriting as I go
The more I change, the more all the text and images move, so I’ve started from the beginning and want to move the text and images to the final text on the new document.
To top it all off, I’ve forgotten how to lock text and pages from changing if you want to edit something on a page.
A lot of hassle with everything, but I’ve found that Libre Office suits me perfectly.
Hope it’s ok to write in Swedish.
Best regards
Morkdal
This is frequently a consequence of direct formatting (formatting text manually with buttons or keyboard shortcuts). The only way to guarantee stability and reliability is to apply styles to your text. So, first thing to do is to understand this powerful feature. Read the Writer Guide for basic information, then excellent Bruce Byfield’s “Designing with LO” focused on styles (you can download it after clicking on “More…”).
Be aware that mastering image placement is the most difficult task in Writer because images, or frames more generally, are very very sensitive to direct formatting. Direct formatting is a real poison which kills your layout and formatting. This is particularly true for images.
Caution! You must not think in terms of pages. Writer manages a text stream which is spread over pages which are allocated dynamically to accommodate text volume. You can optionally request page breaks but no more. If your book layout is based on pages, line an on-line sale catalog, then Writer is not an appropriate tool (of course, you can do it but the effort to emulate page paradigm is disproportionate compared to what is provided by real desktop publishing programs – and the result will require extra care when editing).
+1
Swedish branch … seems not to exist.
